The Smith & Wesson 627 is a double-action revolver built on a large N-frame and chambered in .357 Mag with an 8-shot capacity. It was originally introduced in 1989 and sometimes referred to as the Model of 1989 but featured a 6-round capacity in an unfluted cylinder before an upgrade in 1996. In addition to a larger capacity the newer model has an unfluted cylinder and shorter barrel. Both feature a stainless steel frame cylinder and barrel as well as gold bead front and rear adjustable sights. Available with wood or synthetic grips the 627 is favored among competition shooters and handgun enthusiasts.
