A quality rifle starts with a quality receiver set. El Jefe’s upper and lowers start with domestically sourced 7075 aluminum billets. The billets are heated to near 1000F and then hammered with a 1,100-ton forge press into the rough outside shape of the upper or lower. Next, the forgings are machined on a CNC horizontal machining center where the majority of the aluminum is removed to make a strong and lightweight part. After polishing and smoothing the receivers are Mil-Spec Type 3 hardcoat anodized in matte black.
El Jefe’s handguard is the well-known ALG V3X featuring a slim, round profile with low viz M-LOK slots. The V3X uses the ALG rock solid large diameter barrel nut for the ultimate in stiffness and resistance to rough handling. A comfortable and ergonomic SOPMOD stock from B5 Systems is mated to a 7075-T6 aluminum Mil-Spec six position buffer tube. A Geissele Super 42 braided wire buffer spring surrounds an H1 buffer so that even low powered steel case ammunition will cycle reliably.
The reciprocating bolt carrier group is made by Geissele Automatics from Mil Spec 8620, 4140, 4130 and Carpenter 158 steel with the ID of the carrier and gas key hard chrome plated. All parts of the BCG are Manganese Phosphate coated except for the chrome plated firing pin. Of course, the El Jefe has the renowned ALG Defense Advanced Combat Trigger. Used in countless police duty rifles including the new U.S. Border Patrol rifle, the ACT sets the high bar for a smooth, creep free combat trigger.
Machined from MIL-B-11595E chrome moly steel, the barrel on El Jefe is button rifled and chrome plated. A 5.56 NATO chamber will eat both .223 Remington and military 5.56mm ammunition. Hard chrome plating is the most effective method of making a true hard use combat barrel. Not only does chrome provide corrosion and wear resistance but it also is non-fouling and resistant to the erosive effect of hot powder gases.
The owner of an El Jefe will get a long life barrel where accuracy is maintained for 1,000s of rounds even if shot at a high firing rate. Mated to this barrel is a Geissele 17-4 PH stainless steel gas block with a Geissele exclusive extended mid-length gas tube for softer shooting and more manageable recoil. An A2 flash hider protects the muzzle crown. To complete the rifle system, El Jefe comes with an M4 carbine Mil-Spec web sling and a pair of steel QD swivels.
The cherry on top is the U.S. engineered Warner and Swasey 3MOA red dot sight with integral back up iron sights so there is no need for a separate BUIS set. With no requirement to dismount the red dot or flip or move anything out of the way, the W&S integral iron sights are instantly available in an emergency. A sharp and clear red dot affirms the quality of this sight as soon as the shooter takes aim at his target. A strong scope mount with oversize cross bolts maintains zero during the inevitable bumps and drops of a duty rifle. The industry standard of 1.54, red dot above bore centerline gives the best alignment to the shooters eye while maintaining a cheek weld. El Jefe is The Boss of quality, reasonably priced AR-15s. It’s the perfect addition to the gun rack of any sport shooter, Law Enforcement officer or home protector.
